So it has recently come to my attention that I appear to buy nearly as much cosmetics/hair/beauty products than I do shoes and clothes! Whenever I go shopping (very frequently) I always pop into Boots, Super drug and Debenhams to grab a few essentials which always turns into me buying loads of unnecessary products just because it's fun! I have always seen make up as literal art and every morning I adore whacking out my warpaint! However I would like to blame all you incredible beauty you tubers/instagramers for making my spending habits worse & forever making me lust over new things! ;-) Anyway my interest in beauty is much larger than I would have thought, so I will let you guys know about how I fair with recent purchases, as well as chucking in my make up bag staples in a later post! Without further ado, my October haul...
L-R: Rimmel London Stay Matte Foundation in Ivory - Revlon Colourstay Foundation (combination/oily skin version) in Sand Beige - Rimmel London Wake Me Up Brightening Concealer in Ivory
So my skin is a nightmare, therefore finding the right foundations/primers/concealers that don't irritate is crucial for me! Ever since I went to the doctors years ago to help my (actually very normal and healthy) skin and make it a bit clearer, it has only got worse from the concoctions of lotions, potions and horrible antibiotics they have put me on. It then came to the point where I decided to come off all of this crap and simply try treating it herbally. Anyway I am very fussy about foundations as I hate cakey and heavy formulas because I feel like my skin is being suffocated, so here is my verdict on these skin products:
Rimmel London Stay Matte: The main reason I purchased this is because years ago I remember really getting on with the previous version (anyone remember, with the beige and green packaging?) so I thought I would give this a go! Despite being content with my current foundation I still like buying new ones to experiment with, because the high street has so many affordable beauty buys. I was worried that the slightly whipped formula of this foundation would be cakey however it is surprisingly light and with great and build-able coverage for a cheap foundation (about £6?) You do need to blend quite well to prevent build up but I still really like this and its a great day foundation.
Revlon Colourstay oily/combination: So above I said I was content with my current foundation? This is it! By far the best I have ever tried, so much so that I am afraid to splurge on any other product in fear it will be a disappointment! This one I purchased was a re fill as I was getting to the end of my old one. Colourstay is a godsend for me because it completely covers my scars/imperfections quickly and feels very lightweight, and more importantly it doesn't slide down my face after a few hours! I even wrote to Revlon to praise this and to thank them for restoring my confidence, because this product just works perfectly for me. However if you don't have combination skin they also have different formulas so I urge you to give this a go, at £13 it's slightly deerer than other high street foundations but lasts a long time and is so worth it! The only downside is having no application pump, however if you were really bothered I'm sure you could buy one separately. I could seriously ramble about this forever but I shall spare you the boredom!
Rimmel London Wake Me Up concealer: I really quite like the Wake Me Up Foundation (surprisingly so because it's illuminating and I never thought someone with oily skin could get on with these?) so I decided to try the concealer! This stuff does the job, it's lightweight, brightening and covers everything, but it still doesn't make me want to rush and buy some more, so as much as I like it, I'm not totally sure how I feel. This stuff is probably really effective for people with pretty good skin but for me I need a little longer lasting product so I think I will still be experimenting with concealers after this one.
Rimmel London Clear Complexion powder
Despite having oily skin I still only use powder to set my foundation because it really improves staying power, then I use blotting papers throughout the day to mop up shine. This powder is great because it's translucent and isn't cakey. I definitely like this however I am still on the hunt for the ultimate powder, because I have never really stuck with a certain one before, suggestions greatly appreciated!
L-R: Natural Collection colour corrective stick in green - 17 Miracle Matte skin primer
Natural collection colour corrective stick: Chloe Helen Miles once mentioned that she used a CC cream with a green base because it corrects redness, so I thought I would buy something I could pop under concealer to counteract redness, as I didn't want to change my beloved foundation! Natural collection is crazy cheap so for the price I paid this works pretty well, simply place it on areas of redness, scars, spots and it will dull the redness ready to place your foundation/concealer on top!
17 Miracle Matte Primer: I usually use Benefit's Porefessional however I fancied trying something new! I nearly bought Rimmels stay matte primer and Maybelline baby skin however I thought these may be a bit oily for me, and because this was only £4 and is a non oil formula I got this instead! It is very thick and doesn't stretch far but I'm pretty sure it does keep shine at bay, so I suppose that's mission accomplished! Although I'm not sure how well it does on making foundation last longer, so I may try a different one after this!
MUA Matte eyeshadow pallete
£4 for a gorgeous neutral matte eye shadow pallette... you can't really go wrong can you? I mainly purchased this because it was cheap and looked pretty, however what suprises me most is the pigmentation you get for your money as well as the fact it doesn't crease! Admittedly I think the darker colours come out a lot better than the lighter ones, but they are super blendable and pretty day to night, you need this in your collection!
Elf Shimmering facial whip in Spotlight
I ordered this online because an instagramer recommended it and I was looking for a great highlighter - which this is! It smells great (you've gotta appreciate good smelling cosmetics!) has a gorgeous colour, stays well and Elf products aren't tested on animals, which is great for veggies like me for peace at mind! This stuff also lasts a long time because you only need the tiniest of blobs! I apply it to my brow bone, bridge of the nose, cupids bow and cheeks for a pretty sheen.
L'Oreal False Lash Architect mascara
Over the years I have slowly found what kind of mascara brushes I like, and this one resembles a few Lacome ones I have used and loved, so I had to try it! I have pretty long lashes so I like to accentuate every individual one, so I do tend to take my time, however I find this takes that little bit longer to apply as the brush is very fine. You are however left with lovely delicate and fluttery lashes so it definitely gets a thumbs up! The problem with mascara is I have found so many good ones but am yet to find 'The one!'
L - R: Natural Collection Eyeliner in White - Natural Collection Lipliners
Natural Collection Eye Liner: Everyone knows white brightens and highlights the eyes, so I grabbed this cheap eye liner and now use it daily in my water line and the crease of my eye because it totally wakes the area up and highlights your eye colour, a definite staple for the make up bag!
Natural Collection Lip Liners:I admit, I am guilty of only using lip liner for red lippy, however I definitely now use it with everything! This stuff literally makes the most of you lips and makes them look so much fuller! I tend to blend the two colours to make the perfect Kylie Jenner lip or use them singularly with lipsticks. I am definitely going to try out more lip liners, never underestimate the power of them, and if you don't use them, I strongly advise you to start!
L - R: Quick fix anti blemish mud mask for oily & spot prone skin - Vaseline spray and go moisturiser in Aloe Vera
Quick fix facial mask: I love a good pamper, and seeming as this is recommended for twice a week usage if you have skin like mine, it means I have the perfect excuse to kick bag and relax! I discovered this brand in boots and I love it! They have loads of different masks for different skin qualities, this particular one contains mud, tea tree and salycilic acid, so amazing for my skin! Its easy to apply, leaves my skin super soft and clean and also doesn't dry it out, which usually happens with masks and hugely irritates my skin! A definite favourite has been found!
Vaseline Spray & go: I am so terrible when it comes to moisturising in the winter months! Come summer I'm like a slippery, soft and supple goddess but when it gets cooler there's nothing I hate more than sitting around in the cold waiting for thick moisturiser to sink in! I had tried the cocoa one before but fancied a lighter smelling one, so this is perfect. Now I know the main benefit of moisturising is in fact the application because it gets your circulation going, but when you really don't fancy it this stuff is great for keeping you moisturised if you're busy, because you literally do spray and go!
I hope I didn't bore you guys too much and didn't ramble, but if you liked my reviews or have any further questions/anything you want me to try out please do let me know!
